Jacinda Ardern’s radio spots- soft questions and lots of giggles

Broadcaster Mike Hosking, about the only radio host in the country who might qualify as center right, goes all out to prove the PM is a giggling little girl who doesn’t like being held accountable.

It has been the custom for thirty years or more that the PM appeared on top rating NewstalkZB morning show to give the country a run down on what the govt was up to. A few weeks ago, Ardern decided to break with this tradition. Her office said-

“The Prime Minister will no longer do a weekly slot specifically on the ZB morning show. However she, and all her ministers, will continue to appear on the show as and when issues arise.”

Hosking said she was “running for the hills”, and –

“Without being too unkind to some of the other players in this market, the reality is the Prime Minister enjoys a more cordial and more compliant relationship with them. The questions are more softball, she favours a more benign pitch where the delivery can be dispatched to the boundary more readily with no obvious chance of an appeal.”

This week Hosking recorded the PM’s appearances on other radio stations, and events seem to show he was on target with his analysis. In the recording below, Jacinda Ardern appears on three local radio stations, while Hosking mocks the questions and the PM’s answers.

The reality is that most of what Ardern’s govt has done has been marked by failure. Hosking is one of the few who held Ardern accountable for these failures, and she didn’t like it.

The attached video pretty much proves Jacinda Ardern is much more at home preening and giggling with the air-headed broadcasters her voting demographic is probably listening to.
