Media knew Ardern had lied but said nothing

A reminder for those who have read the report Tiriti Framework For News Media. (see my previous post)

Originally produced in 2008 it was recently edited and reissued as a guideline for allocation of money under the Public Interest Journalism Fund.

Here is video of Jacinda Ardern in parliament being asked a question on this very issue, and flatly denying it was happening. When the report is so invasive it even tells media what skin colour newsreaders should have.

It is impossible to believe Ms Ardern or her Broadcasting Minister Willie Jackson could not have known about this document and its outrageous demands.

The legacy media knew about it too, but (of course) never queried or challenged Ms Ardern on the misleading statements she made in parliament. Why would they? They were doing what was asked of them and the money was rolling in.

They put money over principle and simultaneously showed they are all completely untrustworthy. (Not that we needed further evidence of that.)

Note: It has come to my attention that this is not breaking news and that Sean Plunket and the NZCPR have previously remarked on this document. I did not know of this and obviously need to pay these outlets more attention.

While I agree everyone – and I mean everyone – should pay attention to NZCPR, Plunket has become unbearable. His promulgating of lies about the dangers of the covid killshot and his vilifying anyone who dares espouse a different (ie correct) opinion puts him in the same boat as the rest of the legacy media.

Gantt- NZ media has been left wing for a long time, and of those who made it this way, Sean Plunkett deserves a fair part of the blame. He beavered away at Radio NZ propagating far left garbage for years.

That’s he’s had a kind of come to Jesus moment in recent times is only because he’s an old white man and therefore falls into the suspicious category.

This suspicion gradually grew into one of the left’s usual obsessions and eventually, because of a few unintended mis-steps, he was suddenly seen as an enemy. So being persona non-grata to the left he’s had to fight back to some degree, and he’s making a reasonable fist of it with his new streaming radio station. He deserves credit for getting The Platform up and operating it without govt support.

However IMHO he’s still at heart a lefty, and he’ll probably never cross the divide completely.

Leaving politics aside, I find his over-bearing interview style pretty hard to take. Its why I only listen on occasions, usually when someone draws my attention to some issue he has dealt with. Its why I missed his comments on this matter.
