There was an 10.2% drop in trust for the TV One newsroom last year. It starts 2024 with a new management team. However its doubtful the new team will arrest this fall.
Phil O’Sullivan is Executive Editor News and Current Affairs. Director of Content is Nevak Rogers, originally hired in 2018 as “Commissioner” for Maori content.
Mr O’Sullivan worked at CNN for seven years. So that pretty much says all there is to say about his ability to present unbiased news. The announcement of his appointment was reportedly cheered by newsroom staff. (he had been filling the role in an acting capacity for the second half of 2023)
Biographical notes on Ms Rogers say- She was always “aware of the fight”. Her Dad was Tongan, her Mum Māori. Her uncle was a founding member of the Polynesian Panthers. She grew up as Nevak Ilolahia in 1970s South Auckland. “Dad’s generation were asked for ID walking down the street,” she says. “I was a product of that.
So you don’t need to wonder why every bit of election news from the US is just anti-Trump pro-Biden propaganda. Or why some piffling cultural event in outer Waikikamoocow is headlined, and reported on in unintelligible gibberish, while the huge farmer protests in Europe are totally ignored.
Its the new TV One newsroom, and Phil O’Sullivan and Nevak Rogers have it all under control.

At home we ceased to watch any NZ TV Channel 8 years ago approximately, we play music without ads during dinner time. In regards to the press, we cancelled subscriptions around 8 years ago as well. Oh joy! we enjoy our meals a lot more and sleep better.

They’re lost. Dead, but won’t lie down. Reference what Kisin said at ARC. (His item is just under 13 minutes long and is well worth every minute!) The ‘legacy media’ item is about 10:28 minutes in.)
“Reflecting our community,” likely means their own staff. Not the rest of NZ, that’s for sure!

Have a look at this chart. Amazingly, 58% of NZers agree that the media is not influenced by govt or unduly biased. (from the above mentioned Trust in Media Survey)

Those who watch it do not know they’re being brain-washed. I gave up watching propaganda / ratings-driven NZ TV about 20 or so years ago. Same for listening to propaganda / ratings-driven NZ radio.
I do listen to one weekly item on Reality Check Radio, but I find it so much easier and speedier to absorb and analyse items which I read, rather than listen to all the likes, uumms, yeahs, yunnos and such drivel.
The other NZ media worthy of the effort is The BFD. I handed out a few Xmas gift subs., and can only hope that the recipients will bother renewing.

I do wonder who they asked? If a good cross section of NZ public then it’s rather frightening to think that over half think the media is free of bias. I stopped watching/listening to the news a long time ago and only watch but don’t listen to, the weather. Can’t cope the incomprehensible and totally unnecessary Maori bits. Thank you for the phone number; didn’t know you were able/allowed to ring up and complain.

Time then, to start ringing up and complaining about bias, and the
incomprehensibility of gabbled Maori.
I did today, but the real suspects aren’t back until next week. 09 916 7000
No matter how keen they are on virtue-signalling, the bigger their
audience loss, the less that advertisers will stay on board.
So much now depends on individuals ringing up politely and complaining
– not leaving it to the usual few.

Amy- The saddest part of the “Trust in News 2023” report is that the largest source of news for NZers is Stuff. (by a small margin over TV One) Have to admit I have no idea how we are ever going to fix this problem unless someone like Javier Milie is elected and cleans the whole verminous nest out. (In Luxon we have pretty much the opposite of Milie.}

All state broadcasting must be sold, if unable to source buyers within three months, they must close down . . . cesspits of left-wing woke bullshit and dangerous.

How can there be trust? Seriously. All trust was was destroyed with the acceptance of the toxic Labour Government’s bribes. Now there is the constant, in your face, propaganda re the wonderfulness of all things Maori, the refusal to show any hint of the reality of the massive protests happening around the world against the destruction of our food sources (farmers) as part of the so called climate emergency reaction, the toxic WHO plans to undermine local governments via the health regulations, and the establishment of the control of populations via the 15 minute cities concept, to name a few. Where is the journalism? Why aren’t the big issues being talked about? How much are you being paid to keep us isolated and dumbed down? You are totally untrustworthy. The 4th estate is now in the underground systems, you are not part of it. You will get what you deserve sooner or later, I just hope that it’s soon.
