Maori over represented in parliament today

A Maori Party MP celebrates the murder in Hawaii in 1779 of one of the world’s greatest explorers.

Captain Cook’s 18th century sailing missions ranged from the Antarctic ice fields to the coasts of North America and to Australia & New Zealand. He peacefully changed the map of the world more than any man in history.

NASA named two of its space shuttles (Endeavour & Discovery) after Captain Cook’s ships & left a medallion celebrating his achievements on the moon.

On the anniversary of his murder, Maori Party MP Rawiri Waititi tweeted celebrating the killing and gloating that Cook’s body was dismembered, cooked and eaten by the MP’s Hawaiian ancestors.

The misnamed “Maori” Party is a cancer on this country. It owes its parliamentary presence to the existence of “Maori” seats, established in 1867 to give Maori a greater say in govt. Today, Maoris are proportionally over represented at 22% in parliament, 16.5% in the population.

Proving the seats are an unnecessary undemocratic and divisive relic that need to be disestablished. Especially when they give a platform to unrepresentative narcissists who hate our country and its history.

John Key promised to remove the Maori seats as part of his 2008 election campaign. He won, but failed to keep his promise. Time for the National party to make good.

The gNats? Make good? You jest?

As I dimly recall for history lessons, Cook was also a prime mover in ameliorating scurvy, the long-time curse of the sailors of that era.

And if “scribble-face” asserts Hawaii as his heritage, how can he claim to be indigenous to NZ?

What caused scurvy is more common knowledge in recent times. It was not so, back then. Cook and a few others did not know the cause of scurvy, but had unusual and successful ideas on how to manage / control it.

Yes, the words “kanaka maoli whanaunga” make it clear that he regards the Hawaiian islands as where his ancestors reside, so you’re right. He cannot say this and then claim to be indigenous to NZ.

The thing here is its not really about race. The Maori Party and the Green Party are the two most effective levers in bringing Marxism into the NZ political debate. They spearhead the ideas, and the Labour party then makes then more mainstream.

This must be stopped, but the Nationals are so hopelessly infiltrated and lacking in courage they will not do what is necessary. Even with urgings from ACT and NZ First they will be reluctant. Unless the public mood can be changed so that the normal allegations of racism are neutralised and made ineffective.

That is why we must follow the courageous Julian Batchelor’s example and become more outspoken on these issues. The Nats are key to bringing about change (unfortunately) but they will not even think about it until more people speak out.

As always, its up to us. Nobody is coming to save us. Its up to us. If we want to stop the Marxists, we must destroy the subterfuges they are using to bring them power.

How many million dollars of taxpayers’ money has been wasted subsiding inefficient maori business ventures, that have failed, even though they have had advantages tendering for government contracts.
Also, how many so-called successful maori business ventures have paid any taxation, on businesses that have actually shown legitimate profits?

The Royal Commission in the 80s that recommended proportional representation also found the separate seats hadn’t done anything to advance maori. They recommended getting rid of the maori seats and move to a single role with proportional representation. It was up for consideration in 93 and, of course, Bolger showed his cowardice. It was (as someone said above) up for consideration again in 2012(?) and, channeling his inner Bolger, Key showed his cowardice. Considering Bolger had Doug Graham in his cabinet and Key had Finlayson, it’s no surprise they ran away from the issue. Disappointing, but not surprising.

Gantt- Yes, and this is why National are dragging their feet on the Treaty principles referendum. Too cowardly. They do not have the guts to break the ice on any matter.

Unlike Labour, who for example brought in the “No Nuclear” policy that had immense repercussions, but they wanted change and they wanted to do it so they did it.

That is why we the people have to work to try and change the mood, so that eventually, when opinion has shifted, the Nats might give it a go. Otherwise, we leave it to them alone, nothing will happen.

We have NZ First and ACT to help us apply pressure, so its an opportunity to squeeze the Nats in a way that hasn’t happened before. So squeeze them we must.
