Labour’s Muslim MP pressures Police Commissioner on hate speech and white supremacy

During the annual parliamentary review of the NZ police, Muslim Labour MP Ibrahim Omer pressures the NZ police Commissioner on hate speech, white supremacy and diversity in the police force. Omer is a refugee from Eritrea and was given safe harbour in NZ in 2008.

The country is failing in teaching refugees just what it is that makes NZ a safe place to come to, and that is a Western heritage that respects free speech and which has habitually made no legal or otherwise distinctions based on race, as his status as an MP demonstrates.

Mr Omer needs to respect these traditions, and cease using an aberrational event as a political weapon. He also needs to understand he is in parliament to represent all NZers, not just the Muslim socio-political faction. NZ society needs unity, not division
